Australian artist Ian Strange (Kid Zoom) has spent the better part of the past two years focused on an in-depth artistic examination of suburbia and how it affects us as a symbol. Entitled “Suburban” the project is a testament to the focus and sheer determination one artist can muster, and the scope is nothing less but inspiring.

Strange began his journey into the art world as Kid Zoom and quickly grabbed the attention of many as an individual whose cleverness and ingenuity stood out amongst his peers. In personal interactions with Ian, his ideas were simply bigger and more thoughtful than the many of the other “street artists” in the field. There has never been a doubt that his work would one day be museum worthy, it just turns out that that day has arrived sooner than expected.

SUBURBAN is a multifaceted photography, film and installation exhibition created by Ian Strange which will be presented at the National Gallery of Victoria on July 26, with a short-film which will be released in late 2013. The project highlights eight site specific interventions incorporating suburban homes in Ohio, Detroit, Alabama, New Jersey, New York and New Hampshire.

Highly recommend checking out this exhibition, it’s history making.
