If you haven’t had a chance to check out Josh Agle’s (a.k.a. Shag) show at the Corey Helford, time is of the essence friend. His show Animal Kingdom is currently showing at the Corey Helford Gallery will conclude on February 29, 2012.
Animal Kingdom features Shag’s hallmark touches of vibrant colors and sensual moods all wrapped in a retro adult playground. You are sucked in almost instantly into this mid-century glamour world Shag creates. His new creation features men and women wearing antlers and animal ears while enjoying a hedonistic lifestyle.
He credits the inspiration for this show to a 70s sewing pattern for animal costumes. While the ears of the costume would change from bear to tiger to bunny-the boy would remain the same. “I’ve notices a lot of teenagers and hipsters recently wearing hoodies and beanies with animal ears, antlers or horns,” comments Shag. “Maybe there is a subconscious societal urge to return to our animalistic natures.”
Shag plays with this idea of humans reverting to an animalistic state throughout the show by depicting characters that embrace their own desires. The highly anticipated show is the first time Shag has shown in LA for over two years, and trust-it’s worth the wait.
