Casey Gray is a deeply calculating artist, cutting every stencil to precision, and executing his vividly designed works with care. We’ve spent the better part of the past year getting to know both Gray and the work he produces. In that time, the artist has progressed from myriads of kaleidoscopic imagery to focused abstract works, filled with symbolism.
Somewhere between the ribbons of color, the artist has hit upon a cultural vibe which resonates with the viewer. He is redefining fine art through spray paint. But be clear, he is “not a street artist”, as Gray often states. “The only difference between myself and any other painter is that I use spray paint as my medium.” Casey’s art continues to evolve, and it is clear that collectors are following.
Within the past year, demand for Gray’s work has increased as have his prices. Opening night for his latest show “The Style of Eye” at White Walls Gallery was indicative of this, with red dots throughout the space. Nearly 60% of the artist’s work has sold within the first few weeks of the show’s premier, a sign that his aesthetic is being well received by the art market.
Gray will be presented alongside well known names Ben Eine and ROA at this year’s SCOPE Art Fair in Miami for Basel week. White Walls curator Justin Giarla continues to represent Gray, and his decision to place the Grey in the fair is a clear indicator that the artist’s career is beginning to flourish. In seems that in both the gallery and collector market, Gray is solid investment.
“Style of Eye” the latest body of work from Gray at White Walls Gallery highlights his ability to take abstract art into territory never before explored. Reminiscent of Picasso in spray paint, elements of cubism and expressionism take center stage in the Grey’s new work. Not quite gallery street art, the artists exploration of spray paint as a medium really seems to have shaken things up a bit, and it is obvious that Grey is a pioneer on an entirely new frontier.
